Elizabeth Tandy Shermer (she/her/hers) is a historian of US capitalism. Her research has appeared in scholarly journals, books, and newspapers published in the US and around the world.

I am an associate professor of history at Loyola University Chicago, where I teach undergraduate and graduate courses on US politics, policy, and economic development. My research seeks to understand the persistence (and expansion) of economic inequality, political paralysis, and social upheaval as the US emerged as an early twentieth-century manufacturing power, became a superpower, and then struggled to adapt to a multipolar world. I have explored those themes in classrooms, public talks, interviews, and writing projects, including my new book, Indentured Students.
